Dr Attie Botha obtained his MB;ChB at the University of Stellenbosch in 2005, after which he completed his Internship training at Windhoek Central Hospital in Windhoek, Namibia. After returning to Somerset West’s Helderberg Hospital in 2007, he completed his community service year and continued to manage the orthopaedic surgery department there until the end of 2009.
In 2010 he was appointed as registrar at Tygerberg Hospital and completed his postgraduate specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery. In 2014 he obtained his MMed Orth (Stell) degree Cum Laude, and was awarded the Post Graduate Student of the Year award by the University of Stellenbosch’s Faculty of Health Sciences for academic excellence in a structured master’s degree.
In the same year, the College of Medicine presented him with the prestigious JM Edelstein medal for a very high standard of academic proficiency in the Fellowship examination of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa.
He completed an AO Spine Fellowship, qualifying him as a spinal surgery subspecialist. During this time he worked with highly regarded peers in the field of spinal surgery, and gained extensive exposure in the various sub-disciplines of spinal surgery.
Dr Botha has delivered many podium presentations at congresses and actively participates in research which is published in peer reviewed journals. He is also a member of the South African Orthopaedic Association, the South African Spine Society and AO Spine.
